“Out of your vulnerabilities, will come your strength” -Sigmund Freud

Our jobs can be very isolating, despite constantly being surrounded by people. The ER team of docs, nurses, and techs is fun, always making jokes and proving we can handle anything. It can be quite lonely and exhausting to constantly keep up that persona.

But we don’t talk about our failures. We don’t talk about our fears. We only hear the stories of the amazing saves and procedures, not the ones where the anesthesiologist had to intubate, we put the central line in the carotid, we didn’t recognize the sepsis early enough, etc.

This week, many of you made yourselves vulnerable, finishing the statement, “One thing I wish my coworkers knew about me it……” That is not an easy thing to do, but how much better would our lives be if we knew others were dealing with similar fears, difficulties at home, or stressors at work?

WEEKLY WELLNESS: This week, share something vulnerable with someone. It may be scary, it may feel uncomfortable, but it also may lead to more honesty and openness in our field, and in our lives.
