You’re an extraordinary person.
Maybe you’re thinking, “No I’m not. Today I froze when my attending asked me a question and I felt like a fool.” Or, “That’s not true. I fought with my girlfriend last night and feel terrible about it”. Or, “She doesn’t even know me! How does she know I’m extraordinary?”
I know because you’ve made it this far. You worked incredibly hard. You were put down and embarrassed by attendings. You balanced a personal life, full of ups and downs, with the demands of medical school. You come to work for 10 hour shifts when you’re sick, when you’re tired, and when sometimes it’s the last thing in the world you want to do.
And for that, you’re an extraordinary person.
WEEKLY WELLNESS TIP: This week, every day, take some time to remember all it took to get where you are. It’s not egotistical to take pride in the extraordinary things you do.
